Breastfeeding gives your baby the best possible start in life as it has lots of benefits for both you and your baby that last a lifetime. The National Maternity Hospital is an accredited ‘baby friendly’ hospital, which ensures we provide a high standard of care so that pregnant women and new mothers receive the support they need to breastfeed.

Classes, support clinics and information sessions

Antenatal Breastfeeding Class 'Preparing to Breastfeed'

This class is facilitated by lactation consultants and will help start a positive breastfeeding journey. You can choose to attend this class in person or virtually.

Breastfeeding Support Clinic for NMH Mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties and challenges

If you are experiencing difficulties or challenges with breastfeeding, you and your baby are welcome to attend our Breastfeeding Support Clinic facilitated by the Breastfeeding Team. This clinic is by appointment only.

Where: Antenatal Education Room, 65/66 Mount Street (adjacent to Holles St)

When: Every Tuesday from 09.30am - 12.00 noon

Please note, from week beginning Monday 17th February 2025 the Breastfeeding Support Clinic will take place on a Tuesday morning only. The clinic will no longer take place on a Thursday.

Colostrum Harvesting Information Session

This session aims to help provide you with information and practical support on how to collect colostrum during the antenatal period. It also explains the value of colostrum harvesting.

Where: The NMH, Mount St Lower entrance Ground Floor Boardroom

When: every Friday from 9.30am - 10.30am*

Booking: No booking is required

Free Colostrum Harvesting Kits are available at this session.
