Here at The National Maternity Hospital we know that every pregnancy and birth is individual, that’s why we offer a range of care options within community, hospital and home settings. Our team of experienced midwives, consultant obstetricians, physiotherapists, dieticians and other health professionals are on hand to answer your questions, no matter how big or small and to ensure you have the support and care you need at every stage of your pregnancy journey.

The National Maternity Hospital offers a choice of public, semi-private or private care for your pregnancy and birth. To help you choose the right maternity care for your pregnancy and birth, we have given detailed information on each option below.

You can book with The National Maternity Hospital no matter where you live, you do not have to be living within the catchment area of the hospital. You can book yourself or you can ask your GP to refer you.

As soon as you know you are pregnant, please contact the hospital to book your first appointment.

Public Care

Most women are entitled to free maternity care as a public patient.

As a Semi-private patient, you will be seen by a Consultant or Specialist Registrar for your visits at the clinic.

As a Private patient, you choose a Consultant who sees you for all your appointments in their private rooms

When is my baby due?

Average Length of Cycles: From first day of your period to the first day of your next period. Ranges from: 22 to 44. Leave 28 if unsure.
